Passports
If you do not have a valid passport you MUST obtain one. To obtain information or apply for a passport visit the United States Department of State website.
The amount time it takes to receive your passport after applying is usually 4-6 weeks but varies based on demand. There are options to expedite the service, but that adds to the total cost.
If you have already have a passport, you should not only confirm that it is valid, but also confirm that it will be valid for the entire trip. A U.S. passport needs to be renewed every 10 years if you were over 16 years of age when you received it and every 5 years for those who received it when they were 15 and under years of age.
Please note: A valid U.S. passport is required not only to enter but also to exit the Dominican Republic.

You will need to purchase a tourist card upon arrival to enter the country. They cost $10 and must be paid in U.S. currency. These cards can be purchased at the Dominican airports at the time of entry. You may also obtain this well in advance of your trip at the Embassy in Washington or Dominican consulates.
