Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: Are you both ready to get married?
- A: Yes, and Yes! (It is ironic because the FAQ before we got engaged was "When are you going to get married?")
- Q: What is the name of the Resort?
- A: Dreams Punta Cana Resort and Spa (it is not the same as Dreams Palm Beach)
- Q: What is the Resorts website address?
- A: http://www.dreamsresorts.com/drepc/
- Q: Why did you choose Punta Cana, Dominican Republic?
- A: We choose this location for several reasons, including: 1) It’s is known for its beautiful white sandy beaches, 2) The American dollar is also known to stretch farther there, giving us and our guests more bang for there buck.
- Q: Why did you choose an all-inclusive resort?
- A: We choose an all-inclusive resort because it will allow our guests to budget for their trip without worrying about over spending. As we have learned from past trips, the intention to budget usually goes out the window! Our guests, and ourselves, will also to be able to enjoy all the resort has to offer without worrying about not being able to afford an activity or a certain restaurant.
- Q: What kind of clothes should we pack?
- A: The wedding itself and grooms dinner is "Beach Formal." Otherwise, you should pack clothes that are appropriate for whichever activities you prefer and 80 degree weather. Some of the resort's restaurants have a dress code. Please consult this when packing.
- Q: What airport should we fly into?
- A: Punta Cana
International Airport (PUJ). This airport is the one most used to
enter the Dominican Republic and many airlines fly into this airport
from the United States.
Please note the resort does not offer Airport Transfers. It is best to make arrangements before the trip with a reputable transportation service rather than just grabbing a taxi.
- Q: Should we rent a car?
- A: You really will not need to leave the resort. Cars are available to rent, but we do not recommend it because it isn’t safe. In the Dominican Republic "rules of the road" and car insurance are virtually non existent.
- Q: Do I need immunizations to travel to the Dominican Republic?
- A: It isn’t required, but we recommend that all of our guests check out what is required and/or discuss with their physician to decide for themselves. You should especially consult about Malaria and Dengue, which are epidemics in Haiti.
- Q: What if I get sick out there?
- A: The Dreams Resort actually has a doctor's office on the
property. However, we recommend that you take precautions before you
even get out there, by visiting your doctor to discuss what they
recommend for your trip and to make sure your health is good enough to
travel. Also for certain ailments, you can have your doctor prescribe
you medication, to be used if you become ill.
In case of a more serious medical emergency, you should be prepared. Hospitals expect immediate payment. You should check with your health insurance about your coverage when you are overseas and/or buy traveler's health insurance. The U.S. Department of State website gives more information about medical insurance abroad.
Please note: Prescriptions are very expensive so make sure you bring all of your regular prescribed medications with you.
- Q: Can we drink the water in the Dominican Republic?
- A: Tap water is unsafe to drink and should be avoided. All water in the restaurants and bars at the Dreams Resort is purified. Bottled water and drinks are safe. Please be careful if you venture outside the resort.
- Q: Is Punta Cana Safe?
- A: Punta Cana is considered safe, especially in the Resort. The
city does have crime, like any other city. Many locals will try to
scam tourists, so use common sense and be cautious. The U.S. Embassy
in the Dominican Republic offers these
tips to help prevent you from becoming a victim of crime.
The Dominican Republic does have police that are specially trained to assist tourists. The emergency telephone number is the same as the U.S., 911.
Also note that the Dominican Republic does have laws that all travelers must obey.
- Q: Should I expect a culture shock?
- A: Punta Cana itself is geared towards tourists and has more of a European feel.
